ZimCal (BIMIZCI) Exposes Medallion's Campaign of Distortion and the Risks of Re-Electing Its Unqualified Directors
ZimCal Asset Management on behalf of BIMIZCI Fund LLC has responded to Medallion Financial's June 4, 2026 press release, calling out a pattern of sensational headlines, personal attacks, and reliance on a personal blogger as a source — tactics better suited to a small-town political campaign than to a serious public company defending its record. The response highlights what Medallion's release conspicuously omits: how Andrew Murstein was promoted to CEO after stipulating that the SEC's fraud allegations against him were true and while under permanent federal injunctions; why five executives would receive $28 million in severance if Medallion were sold; why 1Q26 earnings were the lowest in five years; and why Recreation charge-offs are at a 16-year high.
BIMIZCI also corrected the record on a basic fact Medallion has deliberately blurred: BIMIZCI Fund LLC — not ZimCal or Mr. Hodges personally — is the nominating stockholder in this proxy contest. Medallion's choice to lead with attacks on "Stephen Hodges and his affiliates" is a strategic decision to personalize the campaign and instill doubt about motives rather than engage with the substance. Both ISS and Glass Lewis have recommended that stockholders vote the BLUE proxy card FOR two of BIMIZCI's nominees and WITHHOLD support from incumbent Executive Chair Alvin Murstein and Nominating & Governance Committee Chair Cynthia Hallenbeck. A full rebuttal of Medallion's allegations, along with a legal response, will be released shortly.
Stockholders of record as of April 13, 2026 are urged to vote the BLUE universal proxy card FOR Eric Kelly, John Kiernan, and Tim Shanahan before the June 9, 2026 Annual Meeting. Even stockholders who have already voted the WHITE card can change their vote today by voting the BLUE card — only the most recent vote counts. Voting instructions are available at restoretheshine.com/vote.
